Canon 5D shoot

This week I am shooting in New Hampshire with Blake, Jonah, and Dave. We are shooting with 2 Canon 5D Mark 3 camera packages and handheld Redrock rigs. It is the first doc shooting I have done with the Mark 3, and it has been pretty enjoyable. I put together a Redrock rig similar to the sniper rig and it worked well since our main subject is about 10" shorter than I am, so a standard shoulder mount was too high.

Sunday night we ordered a pulled pork pizza. It was delicious.

Blackmagic Cinema Camera - 1st test

Govinda and I went out this afternoon for our first test run of the Blackmagic Cinema Camera. Everything is filmed using the Canon 24-105mm (4.0) EF zoom lens.  We shot at 1080/23.98p Pro Res, 180 degree shutter, and 200 ASA in Film Mode.

I ran a simple color correct in Final Cut Pro 7 using the "color corrector 3-way" filter.  The camera comes with Da Vinci Resolve 9 and I'm sure Blackmagic would much prefer footage to only be released after a professional color correction on their software; but I think that in practical terms, people are going to be using quick and easy methods as well.  [Plus I haven't learned Da Vinci yet so my options were limited].

The Blackmagic camera arrives pre-2013!

Our Blackmagic Design Canon EF Mount camera arrived this week.  On initial look, it is definitely easy to shoot with as far as menu controls and settings.  It records reference audio and, of course, controls the Canon L-series set of lenses.  We'll be working with it this weekend and will have it available next week.
